SW Illinois | our hog trailers are pulled with mack MP8 motors... 13 liter. 3/4 of our loads are wean pigs so gross is only 60K on the pot, 55ish on the double deck. cull sow loads will be 80, or more.
Have pulled livestock trailers with volvo VED12, detroit 14L, mack MP8, paccar 13L, cummins mx15, and a cat C12. all rated at 4-450. On the trips I hauled I don't think I ever complained about power, and only one of my drivers makes a fuss about which engine he likes. The other 6 drivers that do most of the miles are plenty happy. And given the speed the ELD registers, i don't think power is an issue. A roof fairing is the biggest help, short day cabs with a full height trailer catches more wind than the open sides IMO.
13L will be fine, not sure about an 11L. The C12 is a good motor and lugs good. | |
