Is this a "you and yours are too poor to understand" thing since the newest we run is a 1000 series and have yet to have any problems with it over the last 40 years or so?
Yes I think so. The 900 and 1000 series have a great reputation. Then the 2000 series (NH design) is hated on here. 3000 series you'll find both opinions. 4000 series is liked by many, but still disliked by some.
FWIW, after I switched to CIH combines, I ran 900/1000 series heads for the first 10 years, and have now been running a 3000 series for 2 years (all of them have been 8 row). I got along fine with all of them, but my expectations would probably be higher if I'd spent big money to buy the 3000 series head new vs paying $10k for used. I did specifically avoid the 2000 series - due to reputation on here as well as the lack of a snapping roll support in the front. Supposedly the 4000s work better in down corn than the 3000s. I'm not against a Gerringhoff or Drago either, but have never found one in good shape for the money I am willing to spend. |
