Subject: Taking CRP Out, What tillage should be done?


It's a little ways out but I picked up a piece of land that is coming out of CRP this fall that has been in the program for 10 years that is decent loamy/silty soil and is farily flat with very little roll. It has tile so it drains well but I'm not quite sure how I would like to work it up so I can plant into it. I have access to a moldboard plow but really don't want to go that route as I'm not a huge fan of plowing like that. My thought was after I get it burned off this spring, see how everything looks with the hope of taking a disk over it once, maybe a couple times next spring and see how it all sits.

My other acres are all no-till so I'd like to keep as close to that method as possible but also understand that if it doesn't get worked up right the first time, it'll be a very rough and not ideal for all other activities going across the field for years to come. This is my first time farming something after taking it out of CRP so I'd like to see how others have done it.
