How rural are you? or how close to a small town are you?

If you want to do tillage every year, and have about 5 acres, why don't you plant a patch of sweet corn to sell every year?

Take a look at what John/ AR PlowBoy posts on AgTalk Cafe periodically.

You could take your 5-acre plot, plant clover cover crop in half, and plant sweet corn in half. Then each year you would flip them - plow down the clover and plant sweet corn in it, and plant clover in the previous year's sweet corn patch.

If you don't want a sweet corn patch that large, you could plant a portion to other vegetables; and still plant half - or a portion - to clover as a rotational crop to grow some nitrogen for the vegetables.
