I see your point, but on the flipside, if the dad owns 500 acres when the other kids walk away to an easier job, while one stays on the farm, puts in 14 hour days to get things done, and helps dad expand to 1500 acres, wouldn't that kid be getting shorted out of a lot of sweat equity. I know the right answer would be for dad to give the kid that stayed with the farm a good start so he can have his own operation, then split what he has equally, but that doesn't happen all that often. Too often the dad treats the kid that stayed home as free labor.
