Very southern Mn
If you take the band over your federal crop, you have to report your yields somewhere around the end of the year, can’t remember exact date. They take that information to determine what the yields are. The insurance has been available for quite awhile but don’t how they figured yields with more limited yields reported in the past. I am guessing they have another way to get a metric in a county. Here if you have good dirt, well tiled, insurance probably even a bigger advantage. Not very helpful if you have a sandy farm in a good county.

Edit As someone above said it should eliminate fraud as it uses county averages. Here about 5-6 years ago we did have a drought that really hit a couple of townships, it wouldn’t have been as good that year when those townships really needed it. Here on soybeans we take enterprise units to protect against hail. This program won’t help much for hail unless a large hail event which is pretty uncommon.
