53 yrs ago 1968 4020 MW turbo pan fan all that 125hp 1500hnrs scored original deere 4ring pistons , MW 5 ring black sleeve set was all we had then . Tore down on a rainy day put mw orings in that came with the kit noticed the sleeves weren 't too hard to get back in but was m y first 4020 overhaul . every thing back together buddy was helping me he was on left side finishing up manifolds etc I was pouring coolant in he hollars at me says why is coolant running out of the weep holes !!!! Till then I n ever heard anybody say anything about oring trouble . Dad came in about that time I sent him to get Deere parts and we started second teardown of the day . One thing good everything was clean . Got it running around midnight . By the way the Deere rings were much tighter used a block of wood and a small hammer to get them in sorry for the long story but it was well remembered done several 30-4020"s since but always used OEM orings . B y the way we put a Reliance Hyper Kit in our old 3020 turbo few years ago used Deere orings runs good starts good too . Those hyper - kits are supposed to be a little heavier piston and higher compression for the older tractors and also for earlier 30 series too . Good so far on the 3020 I'd use them again . Head gaskets mentioned above I have heard Reliance gaskets have some problems but the one ion 3020 held up good as did another old 4020 near here is too . My present 4020 has bigger pump etc I wouldn't use it on there I use a felpro on it have blown a deere gasket tractor pulling running 220or so hp
