A spring under the cap and that.
So if your cap fails or that you won't prime fuel.
I think alot of guys never notice, because they fill the filters instead of priming.
Probably more not working than a guy realizes.

Edit- if you get a new one. Grab the fuel fitting sealing ring if they have one, just to have a spare.
Usually they seal, but sometimes they don't.
Pretty easy removing that assembly.
Just push on the tab and slide the fuel line off.
