Well to be honest if I were you I think I’d exit this chat to preserve your luck. Lol. I don’t think this conversation would be happening if your luck was the norm. Every piece of equipment I’ve had with def has had some sort of issue. I tried my best at first but I’ve since learned that the issues end when the parts fall off.

In my opinion if this stuff needs to be on for the good of the public then the warranty should be lifetime and the tab picked up by the taxpayer. This would help to eliminate the reasoning for having those parts fall off and the environmentalists would have their arguably cleaner world.

Another thing that should happen is there needs to be a much larger grace period for when there is an issue with the system. It needs to be long enough to allow time to finish the task at hand to allow repairs at a time when it doesn’t stop productive work.

Oh, and for gosh sakes, if the equipment THINKS it ran out of def 100 feet from where it was going to be parked for the night and goes into limp mode give it the brains necessary to trust it’s own dang def gauge and go back to normal the next morning after it’s filled back up. Or at least supply a big red “easy” button to reset it instead of requiring a tech to come out to hook up a laptop to access that easy button. Ask me how I know. Lol

Funny you say that, because that EXACTLY what the industry has met with the Trump Admin to actually PUSH to be made the legal response. To go from a 45 minute time limit before a derate condition, to 50-100 hours to allow a driver to get off the road, or a farmer to beat that rain and allow a service tech to get out at a more convenient time for everyone. I have that on pretty good authority, though obviously I wasn't in the meeting LOL

Also, you do know that the EPA REQUIRED OEM's to support emissions equipment under a 5 year warranty ever since DEF and the like came out, right? Is it forever, no...but it's better than a year or 2 that most warranties are...I've found dealers that don't even know it...

I know my luck may not be the norm...but you know what else I have that isn't the norm?? The color of products I sell...AGCO was an early adopter of DEF, and as I said before, had some early issues and tried to make those as gentle on the customer as possible. If you bought an AGCO DEF equipped HHP tractor from 2009-around 2011, you know what came with it? A pallet of 2.5G jugs of DEF...anyone else ever offer that?
They knew it was going to have some growing pains, so they went pretty far into trying to take as much burden off the customer as they could, and tried to make sure dealers knew and understood the system we were using as well as possible.

I fully understand that if I was a Peterbilt, Kenworth, or Cummins shop from 2008-2015 I WOULD HATE EMISSIONS equipment...but again, to place the blame squarely of the DEF isn't factual, it's the sum total of the systems installed on equipment for that usage. DEF only likely would have had a far different outcome than EGR and DPF on 2008-2013 trucks...

All this is just my opinion based on my experience folks...you don't have to agree or even read it if you don't like, you won't hurt my feelings with words on a page, and if you ever show up at my dealership, I'm still going to shake your hand and tell you it's nice to meet you. I have never tried to hide in the internet...and I know what opinions can be worth, mine included...I just like to contribute to conversation!
