Equipment manufactures and dealers are not going to be in a hurry to let this happen, because this is their cash cow!
Anything that gives techs issues and having to do repeated repairs isn't really a cash cow...For the cities all the pollution control devices is a big benefit for clean air. Now for those farming in the Dakota's or wilds of Brazil, Canadian prairies not much of an issue as always the solution to pollution is dilution
For us the other electronics has been more of the issues . No DEF repairs . Have replaced all the EGR gate valves, both DEF and non def...Maybe the premium time for diesels was later '90's...Iirc the Deere 7800 had a short run as they needed a cleaner engine so it went along with the 7810
