That perspective makes sense the following is ignored or at least discounted.

1. Manufacturers have global markets and those manufactures (was well as large customers) prefer regulatory stability. While the US changed course one year ago, other developed nations (and their related markets) have not. Therefore, manufacturers will continue to develop and refine emissions components (and EVs) with an eye on global markets and future US market competitively. US manufacturers that fail to make similar investments will lose competitive technological advantage to global firms developing powertrains for global markets.

2. The U.S. air quality regulations are still in effect, they just are not enforced by this administration. Trump EPA has now quantified the value of a human life at $0.00. So new regulations will not have to consider the cost a failure to regulate - good news for those who believe emissions should be unregulated.

3. Another election is scheduled for 2028. January 20, 2029 (inauguration date) is within the statute of limitations for many violations of the existing regulatory framework.

4. Therefore, violations committed by manufacturers (and tuners) today may be prosecuted by a following administration sometime after January 20, 2029 - or not.

5. The majority of the U.S. population is not rural. Clean air standards remain popular among larger populations living in urban centers. Accordingly - long term, the U.S. seems disinclined to deregulate and return to air quality standards of the 70's that gave rise to the regulations in the first place.

6. Very large political interests oppose externalizing pollution costs.
