Machine loss won't get you there.

You may get a lot of guys talking about "phantom yield loss." There are some old studies that "prove" it, and some new ones that disprove it. I don't really think it's a thing.

High moisture vs. low moisture corn yield differences come from 3 things - weather damage, animal damage, and handling loss. Could be butt shelling on the head, blowing dry kernels out the combine, or grinding easier in an auger. First 2 are a guessing game with disaster possible.

On machine loss, personally I've never shelled below 16.5%. At 22% moisture generally the ground behind the machine is pretty clean, maybe 1 kernel per sq ft or a little less. at 16.5% it's getting closer to 3-4 kernels. That's only a 1.5 bushel drop from 22% to 16.5% for me in 210 bu corn, call it 1%.

That said 1 bad weather season every 8-10 years would probably be enough loss to cover your behind.
