I know it doesnt help you now, but a tip I learned from a frequent airline traveler is to put air tags in your luggage. It lets you see where its at almost everywhere ( I think it uses cell towers to do this)

This friend had been on a trip and on the flight home the luggage was lost. The airline found it and was going to have it delivered to their house. They had air tags in it, and they could see the bag moving through town, but instead of heading to their house, it was heading toward a different part of town. then stopped and set there for an hour or so. They went to find it, and tracked it to a driveway, where there sit a pickup with several suitcases in the back, including their bag.

They went to the pickup and started to get it out when someone came outside demanding to know what they were doing. They said "taking our bag" The man said "you cant do that!".
My friend said "its our bag and were taking it" as he showed him the gun he was carring. The guy backed off, saying he was gonna take it too them, but he was tired and went home to take a nap first. ya, right

So when we travel all our bags, including carryons will have air tags in them
