saskatoon saskatchewan | this comment thread started with a saying i learned from a great soil science prof back in the late 70's. along with "never buy land in the winter", more of a Canadian thing. There is a lot of truth to these little tidbits, but as always on this site some wit comes on and calls it out. I have been watching and learning for 47 years now, hope to make it to my 50th crop.
The 1st thing I have learned is do not rely on the government for help. If they can help then they can also take it away.
2nd most important thing i've learned is to be content with what you have and not worry about what the neighbours have or are doing.
This immediate jumping on and attacking comments without any thought as to their validity is I guess a sign of the times and the ease in which one can hide behind some anonymous moniker.
We as farmers have to look in the mirror and really be accountable to what is happening around us. No one is holding a gun to our head forcing us to pay high prices for land, equipment or rent. WE do it ourselves!!! Inputs are always high. I never heard anyone say fertilizer was too cheap a couple years ago when it was cheap and grain prices were at record prices.
Hearing the truth is often painful, gosh I know. Be kind for everyone fights an epic battle. | |
