Southern Missouri | Man John , I’m very very familiar (amazingly similar ) with all the things written towards the end of your post and couldn’t agree more ,so far , we have a good sized spot that is half crop land and half really nice hunting property and St Francis River is the western boundary to the whole place ,have a hunting cabin located there and we kept enough equipment around to farm that and it keeps anyone besides family /friends from being on that farm and gives me a few hours a year on the tractor. I certainly worry about the agricultural world currently,we’re heavy cotton /rice in this area and the price of those are unbelievably in the tank , lately not a day goes by that the local scuttle is about bankers and farmers looking at the money left to come from harvest and setting up 2026 plans ,lot of great old farm families around talking about getting out ,hate to see the country side community just disappear but it sure looks to be happening here in a hurry ,near loan rate prices for our commodities will do that, thank goodness corn and soybeans aren’t in that range. I used to think how hard the years of trying to grow the career are , this chapter of turning into an old man makes me look back on those years in a total different light , total , mental aspect of turning into an old has been can wear on a guy , ( Todd ,if you read mine and John’s post here ,pay attention )think that’s one reason some skip the slowing down years , I’m adjusting to it really well , find myself setting in the middle of that hunting area with the truck shut off listening to millions of geese and ducks flying around the area ,deer sloshing through the duck water , amazing to me that’s been there all these years and I never once did that ,do it a lot now , it’s the old man getting in
