Like to see someone hand tighten one on the 5.3 in my Tahoe, can't hardly get a sheet of paper behind that one on the pan side, wrench is OK with common sense, do not use a cheater bar on it:)
Those 5.3 can be pretty miserable.
Ive gone to only using filters that are molded on the bottom with tabs to grab with a specific cup type tool that grabs from the bottom of the filter on those. Makes a world of difference.
