Lots of replies here. Both hand and too tighten.

But, how about a real explanation from someone as to why sufficiently hand-tightened (don't leak....ever) filters need a myriad of tools to remove? Why do they become locked on threads or housing, even if oil or grease was put on the gasket? Someone lightly suggested never-seize on the gasket. OK...is the gasket the eventual problem? Or what is the problem?



Vibration and heat/cool cycles is what I remember finding when I looked into it.
