mercer county, il		There’s big money for sure. But my kids enjoy it and don’t spend a fortune, they buy thier own steers, and I buy heifers I want as replacements, definitely not “clubby” animals.

Do they take home all the purple ribbons? Nope. Do they do a respectable job with the animals they have, and have fun? Yes. They actually have turned down offers to show really fancy animals, because they want to own them, not just win with someone else’s fancy animal.

I think if you go about it the right way, it can still be good for the kids, as well as being a good time. If nothing else, it forces us to slow life down a little bit and spend some time together.
