Keeping the same amount of heifers you normally do is called maintaining. The current cow herd numbers in the US are historically low. Growing those numbers would be rebuilding. Look back at 2016/17 for reference to the opportunities I’m talking about buying back in at. Literally kept less than 20 head of replacement heifers in 2015, then kept 160 in ‘16 and 80 in ‘17. Paid under $800/hd and got to hand pick them; as the rest didn’t have a home. Too many people had loaded up in ‘14 and ‘15 when $1800 steers were the “new normal”.

Again, if what you’re doing works for you, keep on keeping on.
