Western Ontario | Ontario only has about 250,000 beef cows and doesn’t really matter but I’ve talked to a few mid size guys in the 30ish to 50ish cow range and they’ve sold 2 $2500 US$ cull cows and bought 1- $5000 US$ bred hfr. Maybe sold 6 and bought 3 kinda thing, it’s contraction not expansion but if the feeder calf thing stays reasonable they stand to profit way more than they did 5 years ago with more cows, so yeah, I don’t want to pay $5k for a bred (raise our own anyways) but I get why they’re doing it. . | |
