I"m way south of you, but we'll fairly often do Millet and Cow peas after wheat. Both are pretty drought tolerant. Normally about 10 tons wet, so maybe 4 tons dry? 

Did you ensile the sorghum sudan? Normally that takes care of high nitrates.
