Subject: RE: Loader tractor verse skid loader

Depends on the situation. I used to think that I'd never want or need a skid steer. And then I got one. Wonder how the heck I farmed so long without one. Skid steers are made for moving things and materials. Loader tractors are not so when they are used to move things and materials, there's more wear and tear on things like front ends and transmissions and clutches. For cycle time and maneuverability, A skid steer can't be beat. But if your dealing with mud, then a MFWD loader tractor is the way to go. If you only have one tractor (like I do) it is handy to not have to unhook something because I need a loader for something. I can leave the tractor hooked up and just grab the skid steer. 1 of the best things I did after getting mine is put all the misc item laying around on pallets. That way if I need to move something I just grad the skid steer and forks and move it.
In my experience, I found myself using the skid steer alot more than I thought I would once I got one.
