| I can't speak much on the planter technology because we don't run planters much in our area. My advice, try to stick with one company. All of the technology is "supposed" to work together. But, they still have hiccups. We run a dickey Jon planter system with Case/New Holland Intelliview 4 Plus. The biggest thing is having support on the product.
If you buy a planter with a rate controller on it. It should have ISOBUS. But, it can vary depending on the year and manufacture of the planter. For example, Agco or white started offering ISOBUS in 2012 as a standard option.
You should find a 9-pin connector on the planter hitch. Just google ISOBUS connector to see what it looks like. This connector basically ties into your main box where all of your electronics terminate at one location on the planter. From there, the ISOBUS connector carries HI current and LOW current pairs to power everything. Plus, the CANBUS signals to get back to the tractor or display in the tractor. The wiring design can differ depending on the vendor and how they terminate or daisy chain hardware.
On the tractor side, you have one of two options. Your tractor needs to have the ISOBUS integrated into the tractor itself. Or, you'll have to run an ISOBUS harness from the screen (aka Viper 4) back to the hitch of the tractor. Pretty much all of the tractors that have integrated ISOBUS harnesses run displays that support ISOBUS networks. For example, our T8 runs that Intelliview 4 Plus screen. That screen runs everything on that machine plus it's tapped into the CANBUS and talks to all of the modules on the machine.
As far as running multiple virtual terminals goes, I wouldn't see any problems with that. We also run a viper 4 in our sprayer and that has several different virtual terminals. For example, the rate controller and the auto boom height, auto boom fold, etc. . But, again you'll want to make sure you aren't shorting yourself power.
For example, I know of some neighbors that run newer Horsch drills. They have been having issues running the air cart meters with the NH3 system plus all of the other electronics on the drill because they didn't have enough power coming from the ISOBUS screen running the implement. All things to think about.
