 | Thank you for the info! My neighborhood agronomist got in contact with the MSU entomology folks this morning, they confirmed it is european chafer. Much to my detriment, the say it is worse than the others because it doesn't fly until mid June. I might attempt row beans with the corn planter, I've got it setup for in furrow fertilizer. Is there any insecticide that I could put directly in the furrow on beans? 
 My only reason for wanting to avoid corn is to get this field back to a hay seeding. It's too steep in my opinion to be out of sod for years on end, even with no till there will be erosion if left open for years. Bean or wheat stubble has been my preferred planting environment for alfalfa with or without grass
