Grain will always be in steel structures. It’s fairly common to use concrete before the oats/grain are dehulled, destined, indents, optical sorters, etc but after that the chance of contamination is too great. Poured concrete hopper silos with interstice bins were about $30 a bushel all in. The meridian bolt together smooth wall hoppers were about $10 a bushel before tariffs, about $14 a bushel now.

Actual waste from milling is pretty low, most will go back for bedding and feeds. Construction waste is tough for me as a livestock farmer that grew up welding and patching. So much steel and wood that is custom made for the construction that is then scrapped.

Most of the general contractors workers are not local and are staying in rental houses. They generally work 18 days straight then have 6 full days off in a rotation. There was actually a traveling crew that came in just for the slip pour that does just that everywhere in North America
