| Our pasture has a lot of rocks underground. I couldn't find creosote treated posts locally so have used green treated posts but had trouble hitting rocks with the auger. Last year I bought a post driver for the skid steer loader and switched to oil well drill pipe, 1/4 inch thickness, 8 ft long, 2 and 3/8 inch diameter, and 2 steel T posts in between each 8 ft line post. Corner posts are galvanized octagon pipe, with the king post 10 ft long, and a queen post 6 feet long, both about 5 and a half feet deep, with a octagon diagonal brace. I use high tensile 4 barb barbed wire, 5 strands. The corner braces are really, really solid. What was really great for us is that the post driver can drive these posts through the rocks, or maybe they move them a bit, but I have not had a problem putting a post anywhere I choose to put it, the rocks just don't stop them from going in. I'm a one man operation and this system has made fencing much better and much easier for me (if anyone can say that fencing is easy). | |
