Understand all the comments and who knows whose responsible, tariffs have been very hard on cotton and rice exporters , very hard , it’s also very hard to farm in the Midsouth without being someone who covers a lot of acres , in my opinion farmers trying to make a living and advancement in their fiscal well being are some very intense feeling folks , especially for their families and families land , not knowing where to turn in times like those guys are in is no fun , btdt, January 4 th 1980 I had my whole corn crop in the bins , on January 6th 1980 our local elevator removed their quote for corn price and said no sales till markets resettled, if you don’t know what happened on January 4 th 1980 by jimmy carter , google it , I don’t need to I know what happened, I also lost 40000 in three days on that corn in the bins , early in my career and thought I was sunk , but we made it ,a lot of those guys will too .
I don't need to know what happened. I lived it also. I was young but that period forever changed my approach to major farming purchases. Mostly land and rent but always equipment. Sort of the "what if" syndrome. I have always looked at markets and rain as a glass half empty, not half full. I hope all whole new generation isn't going to learn the lessons we learned during that period. Thing don't look good. |
