coast of Maine | I was always under the assumption here that animal blood was the source of the iron in old time buttermilk paints.Here we had (10,000 years ago) Red paint Indians that used Hematite in burials.Later euro settlers dug up this red Hematite and mixed it into paint= red painted barns /boats etc.Oddly there is no Hematite in Maine except in the burial sites.... | |
