Western-Central Lower Michigan
I remember my Primary Doc telling me he started practice before there was any testing done in my area. He referred way too many guys who came in with advanced P.C. and sadly there was nothing that could help them.
A Breakthrough came with PSA testing, he and another Dr met with all the Primary Drs and they began routine testing. There were a TON of men who were referred to the Urologist who was kept way too busy providing care and biopsies with follow up old time surgery or radiation.
Anyway, Doc had me on annual PSA tests, and mine were gradually climbing, when they got to high 3's he said its time for the biopsy. My Dad had P.C. and so I sort of expected this was coming. I think I was 56 or so when I got diagnosed. The urologist said he hadnt been doing the older style of surgery for several years and wanted me to see a "Urology clinic" in a larger town.
The "Clinic's Senior Partner" had done hundreds of Davinci robotic surgery and that was what I was looking for. Experience, so I got on his "schedule".
Surgery was a success and Ive been at a steady PSA of near zero since..
Maybe there are other ways to deal with P.C., but I opted for what I felt was best for me.
