Does yours need the brake pedal depressed to start? If so, don't press the pedal. That's how my F350 works.
Yes, but it has to be depressed to shift as well.

Only newer Chevy I have to test with is the wife's Tahoe which is push button for shifting and push button for starting. Not tried that.
On my Ford, push the start button but no brake pedal will wake the truck up; press the brake pedal and shift to neutral as needed. Long as I don't push the button and the brake at the same time, she does not try to start.
I hate keyless trucks...
