Hooker Twp,Ne
Situation here=. Corn germinated and came up. Top two inches of dirt dry. Next 2-4 inches has some moisture and this is where root system sitting right now. Below that dry as a bone. We have no subsoil moisture. Our only chance of rain is next Tuesday. If that doesn’t bring a good rain corn will start to die. Our yards are starting to get brown spots in them. Soybeans are trying to peak out of soil. Same situation here as corn. The total lack of subsoil moisture is what concerns me. In my area there is only about 15% irrigation and about 5% of that is from NRD ponds. Ponds are also near dry. If we can get this corn up to knee high our rains will have to be extremely timely this year to raise a normal crop. So what are the odds of that happening— I’d say 25% and that is being optimistic. Also we can’t irrigate ourselves into a good crop without some subsoil below and help from Mother Nature.
