That is the way I like to compare wear components because it puts them on a level playing field. Most people compare by the covered acre, but those numbers are usually biased due to spacing variances. Basically, think of it like this. Take a sweep, mount it on a shank, drop it in the ground, and drive until it wears out. How far did you go.

You can figure it out by using the following formula.

Acres covered for life of implement component (ac) x 43560 (ft²) / Swath Width of Implement (ft) = Linear Distance (ft)

1500 ac x 43650 (ft²/ac) / 32 ft = 2,041,875 ft 

or 387 miles if you prefer the use of a smaller number.
