Glad you’re still kicking and back to normal!

The selling point for dabigatran seems to be that it doesn’t require monitoring vs warfarin which does. I wonder if it’s just too new for the need to monitor to have been realized. Maybe it cannot be detected directly in the blood with current methods available at any hospital or lab like warfarin and some other drugs so “no monitoring necessary” is convenient. I would think clotting parameters could be monitored as a proxy for measuring the actual drug itself. Perhaps the way it’s used and monitored will change over time as a result of experiences like yours.

I hadn’t thought about balance problems and vertigo being a common result of brain injuries or compromise, though it is logical that would be the case at least occasionally. Usually think about inner ear troubles causing that. It offers me some insight on what my mother is dealing with. She is 100 and has been having balance problems for several years and has had a mild stroke. She’s not very able to/or does not say much about her condition unless something hurts, so figuring out what’s going on is a problem.

Over the last week she has had much more trouble walking with her normal “roll-ator” walker which I interpreted as weakness. After hearing about your experience, I wonder how much of it may be due to worsening vertigo/balance trouble. That fits because of how she behaves when sitting up on bed and getting to her feet. Vertigo would make me do the same! Doctor didn’t find anything remarkable yesterday but still some blood work and cultures to come back, so am hoping for improvement.

Hope you remain in good health! Do you get much winter where you are in Australia? We are expecting one last cold snap next week here in the southeastern USA. Highs in the 80’s this week under a high pressure that has kept all this weeks severe weather to our northwest.
