Kingston,Mi
During orientation in Advance Individual Training to be a generator operator and mechanic, there was a class on safety around equipment. One item was rings and high voltage (starters on diesels) 12 or 24 volts and a couple of hundred amps plus a highly conductive metal ring snuggly encircling a finger can and does lead to sometimes tragic results. As an illustration of this when a few scoffed, the SGT. First Class pushed his wrist watch back and showed every soldier the branding he received when his watch band contacted high amperage. His "trophy" was the imprint of the back of a Timex wristwatch and a Speidel Twist-o-flex watch band in perfect detail, permanent brown against pale skin.

The solution for those who would never remove their wedding ring because of vows taken was to cover it with several passes of black electrical tape and be careful. Also received a lecture on removing dog tags before leaning over spinning objects. Several of the more religious took the sgt. up on the tape only to remove the ring before heading out to the bar later that day.

Within 2 miles of my place, a high school classmate and a nearby farmer lost their ring fingers by getting them caught while leaving a truck cab (both trucks were cab overs).
