Goldfield, Nevada....Big mining town in it's day, drove through there this afternoon. They had a neat old fire station. It is probably even uglier now. Didn't it get it by a tornado a week or two ago?

It seems there are alot more ugly small towns than pretty ones. My imagination runs free when I think of these once beautiful thriving small towns in their prime 100 years ago. I find it ashame to see the shambles of these towns today. Newtown, IN is pretty ugly.

At least there is one town out in the pan handle with an ugly name. I'ld feel kind of funny telling people I'm from Hooker, Oklahoma.

Wyoming | Battle Mountain, NV is far uglier. Goldfield has some charm. Battle Mountain has no, zero, zip charm. No old buildings. It is a town that houses the BLM, the BIA and an Indian rez. With that much government real estate in a small town, you can only imagine what it looks like: a low-rent version of Soviet-era architecture (ie, the generic double-wide in US gummint baby-poop brown) scattered across acres of sagebrush. If Battle Mountain isn't the anus of the US, it has to be pretty darn close to it.

Dead Refinery with $25 million clean up just scratching the surface of toxic waste problem . The Oil patch country is just beautiful. :>) for interesting reading Google "Texaco-Sunburst "

Statesville, NC | They just recently tore down one old brick building that everything but the brick had rotted away. It still had a door around the side that had "colored entrance" painted above it.

Kansas | Niles, Manchester, Detroit, Glendale, Westfall, Culver, Verdi, Elmo. All in KS. I can even show you where towns used to be that aren't there anymore (except maybe a house and maybe an old elevator.

The main street does have charm. The old Court house and hotel show what the town was like in it's boom times. North End I-15 | I think Browning was the first Montana school to have armed guards patrol the school halls . My 8th grade teacher was off the res . Great guy , good teacher. His stories of life there were our favorite times in class. This was back in the very early 50's . He went on to be very active in Indian affairs . @ first he wanted to escape , later to help. The poverty on Montana reservations is shocking . Real sad state of affairs . Just shows how badly our goverment can "help"

SWOH | Haven't been through Peebles in quite a while, Ed, but from what I remember it is a hole. Palestine, Ohio is pretty ugly, too.

Devils Lake, ND | Yeah, I shake my head when I drive through the res in the winter and see curtains hanging out the windows. An I've heard the Standing Rock Reservation north of you is one of the worse.
