Subject: Where can I get rid of some tools quickly?

First off, if this post is inappropriate, please take necessary action. I don't want to cause any trouble.

Second, I have a couple tools I need to get off my hands. A 1/2" air impact and 3/8" air ratchet to be exact. I recieved a new impact for Christmas, so I no longer need this one. I have posted it in the classifieds, Craigslist, and even on our local radio station with no success. I don't want anything outrageous ($20 for set), but I want them GONE. They're sitting around taking up space (and we all know how precious that is lol). So where, if any, can I list these to sell quickly? If you guys are interested, look in the classifieds or send me an email. I'm just looking for ideas.

Again, if this is inappropriate, please take necessary action. I don't want to cause trouble.

I don't know if you are on facebook, but I have had really good luck with their "Marketplace". I price things to move QUICKLY and have had results (actually for all items I have sold) within an hour or two. I always require cash and I won't promise they can have the item unless they can pick up the same day.

I have used air tools for my entire wrenching life, Museum my rear. you can have your heavy batt operated tools, but in my shop air is still king. KB
edit to add I bet you haven`t set a foot inside any shop in your area, just walk in the door and offer them to the first 20 bucks that shows up.

I want to see you toss your air tools in the pickup, tractor, combine, gator or whatever and go. When we fetch equipment just toss the DeWalt under the back seat with a spare battery and go. I’d much rather have a slightly heavier tool than be tethered by a airhose.

Neighbor called one day asking to borrow my air impact I told if I ever want it back I’ll call that’s been 3-4 years years ago.

I don't have a battery impact, Have a air impact and use that a decent amount. But mostly do everything by hand, Keep looking at the battery impacts but seem expensive not sure if I'd use them enough.

You'll use them more than you think you will. It gets really convenient to grab one and do something quickly. I find myself grabbing a cordless impact and socket to do things that would easily be done with a ratchet. But, the impact is really handy. Now, I've been in environments where I was doing equipment setup. There is no electric impact that will hold up to doing a few dozen 1-1/8" lock nuts. I'd have spent more time running back and forth for batteries, not to mention replacing electric impacts often because of overheating, than tightening lock nuts. Fasteners that size are hard on 1/2" air impacts. That's why I ended up buying a 3/4" Snap On. After a few tools, you could feel the 1/2" impact getting weak and loose. The 3/4" is much better suited for that. Now, not many people are setting up multiple new pieces of equipment for a month straight. But, there are still times I'll grab the 1/2" air over the 1/2" cordless. I don't have a 3/8" air impact and have thought about getting one in the past, but I haven't come across a situation where I felt a 3/8" air would've been more useful than the 3/8" cordless.

Do you have a local online auction house closer by ? Here, they are plentiful and a couple within 20 miles, with more within 50 mile radius. Online auctions seem to bring good money for used tools/impacts and what have you. Likely close to new price.

Tools of all kinds seem to sell on garage sales. I got rid of my off brand air tools and chain saws that way.

D
Edit.

2 tools worth 20 bucks ? Forget it and worry about something important.

Donate to your school that you go to. Post on craiglist free. Give to some less fortunate student or farmer. Bragging so someone can visit some night for your good tools.

Taking up space? Seriously for $20 put them up on a shelf. You never know when your gonna need a backup. Or leave it in service truck with the portable compressor.

Didn't know a guy could have too many tools......

I will say that when I'm working on something. I may use 2 impacts rather than switch sockets constantly.

West Texas

Your real problem is you don't have enough shelves. Build a new shop immediately! If that's not feasible, then do what I do and pile it on top of the other impacts.

For the life of me, I can't wrap my mind around how much "space" these 2 tools are taking up. Are they the size of a 5 gallon bucket(per tool, NOT combined)?? Have been in the position that  batteries were dead and ended up with tried and true air compressor. Good luck

If it’s really that big of a problem just find a gravel road and chuck them out the window. Seems that’s what everyone else does with crap they don’t want.

Put up a big for sale sign out by the road and set the tools down in front of the sign by the road edge. If you’re in the right area the unwanted items will disappear overnight.

You might can even put bags of trash out there too and they’ll disappear as well. LOL

They can't be taking up that much space.. Running radio adds to sell a couple cheap tools? I'd probably give them away to someone who needs them, or just keep them around, really don't take up any space.
