I am looking for the fastest route to drive from Montgomery, AL. to Tampa, FL.
Would you take Hwy 231 thru Troy and Dothan down to I-10, or Hwy 331 to I-10, or Hwy 82 to Tifton, GA then on I-75 ?
I have went the 231 route and seemed like a lot of stoplights and city speed limits even though it was 4 lane divided highway.
what do locals recommend? thanks.

I trucked on those roads, used all of them, and I prefer the 231 way. Usually the quickest, especially on week-ends in summer.Through Tifton is a little longer, I think.

Definitely not 331.
231 is the best route even though you have to take the “circle” around Dothan. 82 across to I75 has many more small towns and lights.
Edit to add: We are 5 miles south of Exit 152 on I10. If you want to see lots of mud and Hurricane Michael destruction, we have plenty of both right now.

231 is as good as it gets as far as Dothan. I like to take US 84 East before you get into the worst of Dothan traffic and go over to Bainbridge and take US27 South to I10.
If you stay on 231 South of Dothan I like to cut off through Marianna on a 2 lane road instead of staying on 231 all the way to I10. Can't remember the road number but it is just a few miles and once you get into town you will be on the main drag and just follow signs to interstate.

This is a good route that Jim has suggested as well.
If you do go south of Dothan on 231, the cutoff road he suggests is Hwy 73. It takes you down into the west end of Marianna, FL and you can jump over onto I10 there.
