| My company deals extensively with the use and distribution of GSR Calcium products here in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. After reading the replies, I see there questions that should be answered. GSR is proving itself to be very effective in the soil and in the plant's growth and development. Unfortunately, it is a new product and is actions and responses are often not evaluated properly.
In order to see the full effects of what is happening in your field, get yourself a refractometer and start checking the sugar production of your plants. If the Brix - the measurement on the refractometer - is not above 7, your plant is open to all pathogens and disease out there. Your goal is to increase the sugar content by ensuring you plant can have access to available calcium and available phosphorous. As the brix increase, the plant gains energy - (kind of like giving a kid a snickers bar and a pepsi! ) The more energy it has, the stronger it becomes and the more resistant it is to mold, fungus, weeds and insects. Often the effects of the calcium is not seen by just walking by a plant. It goes deeper than that.
To understand the use of these types of products, there is a learning curve. We do many workshops and lots of field walks to help educate our producers. It seems to be a very effective way to get the farmer to start to understand how the soil works and why available Calcium in the soil is so important. | |
