Subject: RE: New law requiring Septic Tank pumping in Ontario

Near-north Ontario, French River
I haven't seen the article yet but I suspect this all stems for a misguided attempt to prevent phosphorus from entering the Great Lakes. Failed or insufficient septic systems have been identified as a major point source of pollutants entering our water ways. Those that live on the Great Lakes can appreciate the issue of green algae blooms the last few summers. Not saying in anyway that the new reg is smart or well thought out, only that its probably another misguided government attempt at trying to solve a problem.... FWIW I built a new house 8 yrs ago, I live alone, so the septic system is far from being pushed capacity wise. I have yet to pump the tank. Down at my parents, with 3 folks living there, and me there as well for the prior to building the house, hasn't been pumped in probably 20 yrs. Still functions just fine.
