Cleveland, MS. Own small farm near Booneville, MS | Scots-Irish. My nephew has done a lot of genealogical research and has us traced back to a Revolutionary War soldier from Virginia (not sure what part). Supposedly, part of his "pay" for serving in the Continental Army was a land grant in Georgia. His descendants trickled west from there. My paternal grandfather was born in Union County, MS in 1875 and moved to Prentiss County. His brothers scattered a bit. Some settled in Lee and Pontotoc Counties and one or two moved to SE Missouri. Others went to Oklahoma and I think a few probably even wound up in California. Back in the mid-1970s when Bill Walton was playing basketball at UCLA for John Wooden there was a guy who played guard on that team. His last name was the same as mine but he was a lot darker complected than I am. Never knew where he was from. Don't know much about my ancestors on my mother's side. |
