To make this plan work you would want to use sexed semen. Should be cheap you would be the only dairy out there looking for male sperm.
I don't think they offer the male sexed semen? I could be wrong I suppose.
I would think that you would be better off using sexed semen to produce replacements out of the better half of the herd and use a beef bull for a terminal cross on the lower end of the herd.
The idea of milking cows to produce bull calves cheap is sort of like putting the cart before the horse here. Sort of like growing wheat only for the straw. |
