If you go with the furring strips, and i do recommend them, make sure to screw them into the rafters not just the sheeting. Be careful with handling the sheets, everywhere you scratch the paint will be the first place to fail. Here if you paint a steel roof at about 15 years old it will add ten more years to its life, might go 60 or more......
