One of the things I have never quite understood about actually using NDVI - how to you choose to take an action based on these relative differences in reflectance?

Do you have a way to tie them back to (a single or series of) absolute values to simulate, for example, yield?  Drought or saturated/submerged areas?  Or does the wisdom of the crowds here have that information?

I am not a doubter, I am just not familiar enough with what is out there to know what algorithms people are actually using to do something with the data.  The most recent conversation I had about NDVI required high resolutions and ground-truthing.  Is there a way to scale up from a small sample set of ground-truthed data to tie back to the larger, low resolution dataset?

Quietly watching and contributing, hoping not to make a fool out of myself.
