West of Mpls MN about 50 miles on Hwy 12 | Dad wanted to be spread in a certain field, his thoughts about cemetery's being a waste of space were the same as mine, and several others who have posted. The trouble was, Mom won't be spread in a field, no how no way, and did not want to be in the cemetery "alone", so they compromised. We put half of dad in the cemetery in a urn that will decompose in the same plot my mother's urn will be buried.
The other half of dad and I went on one last planter ride. We stopped in the middle of the field, my mother, wife, nephew, and little sister rode out in the pickup. We said the Lord's prayer, a few words, metered him into the marker track, and kicked some dirt on him per his wishes. It was a beautiful, sunshiny morning, perfect for planting. The whole "service" was very personal, and pretty neat IMO.
I think it's pretty neat to have him out there with us when we're working. My wishes are for the same in approximately the same place.
