The morphine ramp-up is done on purpose to hurry things along. I'm sorry that you and your sister (and the rest of your family) had to suffer through that.
Hospice nurses (and workers) are amazing people to be able to go through this over and over again...oftentimes spending enough time with the terminal to grow fond of them before they go. Stronger people than I am.
