Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | I tried again yesterday, this time making certain that I did a full shutdown and a cold start on the shop computer. The directory on the computer in the shop does not seem to "find" either of the external hard drives as I plug one in.
If I plug a drive in "hot", I get the usual "beep" indicating that the system acknowledges the presence of the drive and the drive springs into action. I can hear movement internally inside the drive as if it is searching. Even after waiting a long time, this rhythmic searching never stops. This happens with each drive when trying them separately.
When I insert a USB stick (obviously much less capacity), I get the beep and the directory shows it is present. The files (mostly music) are usable fro the stick so it seems to behave as expected. .
Each of these drives seems to work individually on the computer in the home office. I'm still confused about the situation in the home office. Both drives are physically located in the shop office right now. Yet the home office computer that I'm using to type this post, shows one of the drives in its directory.
Attempting to play music or retrieve the test Spreadsheets works as if the drive were plugged in. This data must be coming from some type of image in the office computer in the house. If I click on a song, iTunes is launched and the song plays. It I click on the test Spreadsheet, the Spreadsheet program is launched and the test spreadsheet appears. The directory clearly lists it as external drive G.
Both computers are Windows based but different versions.
