SE Iowa | What I have found is that as drone prices fall, the customers will be end-users rather than service providers. So instead of having to pay for UAS imagery (that is quoted sometimes as cheaper as manned aircraft, and sometimes more expensive), the grower will outright purchase a $3500 system. They may have to take time out of their day to fly, but over about 1750 acres they have it paid off (if you base a UAS or manned plane imagery serivce @ $2 / acre).
It all comes down to if the grower wants to mess with the data. I've often seen that if they are willing to fly their own drone over their fields, they usually take the data further than just receiving it in an email. But if the grower doesn't want the hassle, then a sat/manned aircraft service does mostly what they need, without any hassle. | |
