Subject: 8970 transmission bearing shim questions

south texas
Reading ahead in the book about setting the preload on bearings, have a question. I was machining the case where the race goes for upper counter shaft, using a race from another hole, they all fit tight. Tight as in slight taps from a 3lb hammer will easly move them through the holes with a driver. As i read the book, they talk about races being loose in the holes to set shims. I cannot move the races by hand on any hole.

am i getting the procedure wrong by allowing races to be that tight? I dont have the new races yet.

on a side note the shafts on my burnt transmission all turn but we start milo and cotton planting Monday. Found a broke synchronizer part on one range synchronizer in mine. The top one in the burnt trans looks good from hole behind traction clutch.
