Subject: Fertilizing Alfalfa... phosphorous

So alot of people in my area fertilize their alfalfa every year with potash and map or dap. From what I have read potash will move a little in the soil over time making its way to the roots. However phosphorous in the map/dap, from what I heard doesn't move hardly at all. Meaning it is just stratified on the surface not doing any good. Wouldn't it be smarter to put all your fertilizer up front for however long you're planning on having the alfalfa in for. Then work it into the ground where the roots can reach it. Instead of wasting your money on fertilizer thats sitting on the surface not doing you any good. Thoughts? Or examples of what you guys do on your farm
