What does it take to set up a nav with an ez-pilot motor? There was a thread a while back about it but there weren't a whole lot of details.

If you have the SAM-200 and NAV already, all you need is a cable kit. Trimble part# 85000-02.

What about the software side? What version does the nav box need to be on? What about the vehicle profile?

Ver 13 on the NAV is needed to get the newest list of profiles. There were quite a few added with this version. There are specific profiles for APMD.

How much better performance do you get this way over the standard EZ-Pilot? Is it worth the extra cost of the NAV?

The current installation guide (china) on the Trimble website shows the special NAV to SAM200 cable. This changed from last fall when it showed using a standard NAV and EZPilot cabling joined by a short "jumper" cable which appeared to be the four CAN wires. It also used a wheel angle sensor which is not shown with the current version. I have no idea if using a jumper is still an alternative to buying the new harness.

It's performance is comparable to AutoPilot. It will engage at 0mph, it will work in reverse, the SAM-200 works as a steering sensor so it reacts a lot better when it is engaged, if you use it with a 2050 it will work with next swath. Line acquisition is tremendously better than EZ-Pilot. If you were to pay full price for a NAV it is a toss up if it is worth it but if you can pick one up used I think the performance is definitely worth the upgrade.

The steering sensor is not used anymore. They use the encoder in the SAM-200. I've heard that jumper will work but you will need all the cables from a AM NAV kit to hook the NAV to the display and power so if you don't have that you might as well get the APMD kit.

That jumper cable was my other question. Do you have the pinout? Looks like it is just the can wires hook together. I have a nav box and a full ez-pilot. I'm wanting to give it a try to see how much it improves things. Also I'm curious as to why the steering angle sensor is no longer used.

I don't have a pin out for that jumper. According to Trimble the data from the SAM-200 for wheel position was just as good as from a Autosence so they quite using the Autosence.

I am still having trouble putting together the jumper cable (part number 100468). I more or less have it figured out. pinout for the jumper would be helpful but I think I could also get it figured out If I knew what the wires on plug 4 on the nav harness were.

Officially only the 750. But since the NAV does the steering it does work on the FMX and 2050.
